As part of a development team research project I have been looking at the use of both learning styles and learning design in learning aimed at professional adults.
We have not had time to assimilate our research findings yet, but we intend to look at how we can incorporate some new ideas into the way we develop our content, and also in the way we engage with learners via our online courses.
Some of the key things to come out of the research so far:
• Adults learn better when actively involved in doing something
• A valid instrument that measures learning styles can be used as a tool to encourage and motivate self-development
• Changes in attitude and behaviour take place in a different way to changes in knowledge and skills
Now these are not new concepts for us, but we do feel that we could use them more effectively to develop and design our clients' content to help them to meet their key objectives. So watch this space!
