We have been considering commissioning a course on innovation for a couple of years now, and so I’m really pleased that Anna Faherty, author of Communicating Complex Ideas and Thinking Strategically, has agreed to write one. I have been working on our publishing programme for 2010/11 (more on this soon) and I’m pleased that Innovation is scheduled to make an appearance this Summer.
The approach that we are taking with the new course is based on innovation being part creative thinking and part opportunity development, ie it’s about coming up with new ideas but also about making them happen. This approach will be applied to both external and internal issues, as well as both one-off flagship projects and old-fashioned continuous business improvements. In the light of the economic crisis, the course will also include a general theme of innovation being important in difficult times, and grounding this with how to develop a financial model for innovation. The author’s style is to provide knowledge and theory along with tools and techniques, which are then reinforced through practical and intelligent scenarios that enable learners to practice their skills.
Everyone needs to be able to develop skills in innovation, and this course will enable learners to do just that. Anna Faherty’s two other Nelson Croom courses are proving to be successful amongst our partners, and popular with their learners, and I imagine that this new course in innovation will prove the same.
